Here is the transcript from the video:

00:00:00 hey I’m bloggin brandi from rversity a University for RVers and just like you as an RV or us struggle with some of the same thing so this summer it has gotten hot and hotter I’m plugged up here at the RV park and I’m struggling to keep my RV cool because not only am i paying for a bill to actually rent a spot I actually get an electric bill that keeps going up every month and I’m trying to mitigate that cost RV on a budget and also just keep the RV cool because I hate the sound of the air conditioner it is so loud and noisy so

00:00:40 I’m gonna take you on a tour of my RV and show you everything that I’ve put in place to keep the hot air out the heat the sunlight in the cold air inside so come on and let me show you around we’ll start back here so this is the garage in the RV aka my studio if you don’t recognize this wall and out here is kind of like the room that we come in and out of if you can see I have this sliding glass door and so what I’ve done out here is the places that I’d notice the heater coming are like the lights cause heat so I’ll keep them off during the

00:01:19 day the windows themselves I have two windows in here you can see outside but honestly actually you can see although we’re here at the RV park but this is reflectix and I buy this in a giant role literally a giant roll okay giant roll of reflectix and I just cut this to fit in all the windows in my RV so these windows do have some shade but if you look like sunlight will still get through so I always just like to put this in the window and then I’ll prop I’ll either I’ll show you some of the windows I just prop it in here like this and

00:02:16 I’ll just let that sit in there during the day and then like this is one vent I haven’t covered yet because I need to get one more Vancouver but this looks a lot of sunlight in so that kind of keeps this hot so I do the reflectix on both of the windows in here and then also what I’ve done if you see this door I’ve shoved this reflectix like into the door itself so it’s not propped up over it’s shoved in so you can if your window fits it you might can shove it in but your RV could be different than my RV so as far as covering the windows I keep

00:02:58 the heat out and then back here I do have this AC unit but this is more like a garage so the air doesn’t stay in here a whole lot so if it’s not humid I can use this what they call a swamp cooler and this is called my luma but I’ve even heard of people making these themselves essentially this just takes ice or cold water and kind of blows a fan across it and cools a little bit it’s not amazing but it’s an OK fix especially for spaces like this and then the other thing that I do is I have this fan back here and I’ll leave this box fan on and I just

00:03:48 keep it kind of circulating air in the RV so it helps any kind of air circulation so the other thing excuse me let me move this giant roll of reflectix back here but I come and go in here if you can see all of the shoes are out here so shoes stay out here I keep the RV clean and inside is where I keep the a/c so we come in and out of this back half of in stalled these curtains in here because I’m trying to separate this out and if you haven’t seen the back of the toy hauler actually goes down over the like

00:04:30 so there’s a lot of sunlight that comes in here if it’s not closed right now but this I’ve kind of put up you can kind of see what I’ve done all I did was take these are like blackout curtains and up here I’ve just taken like a curtain rod and this is actually one of the rods you would put in a car and I’ve secured it with just some zip ties and those are like command hooks but they’re just command strip type hanging there’s all kinds of ways I’ll show you some other ways that I’ve set up some stuff in the RV or how I’ve done some other curtains

00:05:08 so I have this door no AC out here that I use actively we come in and out and when we come in here I always shut the door I’ll close this curtain when I come inside and then shut the door and then this part of the RV is all air conditioned or I use the air conditioned so when I’m not using the air conditioned or even just to get circulation flow all the time in my RV except for now because I’m recording you’ll see this fan always stays on I’ll leave this on and you can see how I block out any light in here but what I

00:05:49 do is my windows they have these up-and-down shades on them so you can see outside but like I said I cut these reflective pieces and I put them in the window especially during the day so I just slide them up in the window and prop them and these were not perfectly cut because they were in my van if you haven’t seen my van you can take a tour of it down below this video but these are prop up and these windows I have two windows in here this bedroom actually stays really cool in here because there’s not that many windows

00:06:36 the only thing that I don’t like is that I don’t have any kind of vent to the outside but if you notice I have these vents up here which are my AC vent so my air condition is actually ducted and it will go through out the RV and same thing upstairs can actually see in the law then I put the reflectix in the window and it’s just kind of propped up so all my RVs have the shades in them that come with it it’s just the RV shades don’t block out all of the light it just blocks out a good bit of the light so I want to show you this took me

00:07:17 forever to kind of perfect but this is what I’ve done so in my RV the most light that I notice when I turn my AC on it just blares and goes 24/7 but over my shower I have this skylight up here and what I’ve done is I’ve secured this on the outside with a piece of reflecting and this is velcro or you can use command strips but if you notice these poles that I have these are just expandable poles and I’ll put a link to any of this stuff below this video so you can check it out and find like what fits yours because they make these poles

00:08:02 and different sizes so I’ll show you the poles in the bathroom in a second but I shoved like I said this reflectix it’s just up there and I put the poles across to secure it and then I noticed the light is still coming in and so I just put velcro around this piece and it stays up there like that so this light in a ton of light and another thing is when you save me sectioning off rooms I like to keep the a/c only where I’m needing to cool so like we’re not cooling the garage well the same thing with the bedroom I

00:08:39 can shut this door and open it and keep this area cool and another thing you’ll notice if you’re ever in my RV is that the heat in the bathroom so the bathroom has a door the bedroom has a door and then you can see I have a vent in here so if you’re in the bathroom and you have the door closed it’s actually kind of nice because it will either be really cold or really hot and depending on how I turn everything on so I have ducted AC in the bathroom that comes in here which is these vents and you can close things if you didn’t want the air in the

00:09:20 bathroom you can close this off in section offering it’s kind of that way sometimes I do that in the loft area but you can see these little poles that I had so these are just these expandable poles and they kind of like go in when you certainly move them and they like expand out and like I said I have bigger ones than the other but what I’ve done is I’ve taken these poles I have this fan that he’ll normally come up and did you see how much slide it within I actually have to cool all that so what I do is I keep these poles up here and I

00:09:56 have to and that just helps so the other one I had the velcro on the outside but this one I have the poles on and you might want a stepladder and this folds up depending on what type of RV you have this can stay sectioned off and you know I mentioned this earlier but light if you don’t have LED light so you might want LED lights but lights also get warm and kind of heat the RV – while we’re here this is my control panel and this is how it would actually control the AC in the RV or my fans my main control panel this shows you all my tank

00:10:33 and the batteries and one thing to mention is if I wasn’t plugged up here to power at the RV park I wouldn’t be able to run my air-conditioned unit to these ducted vents but you can run things like the fans so it’s a really good idea to have the fans and you can see I have a fan up here which I’ll show you the front set up in a second but I have this fan up here so I have them throughout my RV the fans stay on 24/7 when I’m not filming and then we use the a/c in the afternoon usually because it’s hotter but when I’m just using my

00:11:15 battery power can use the fans and things when I want to use the a/c I have to be plugged up to power or I have to use my generator and that’s why they probably charge you more for an electric bill outside of the RV rent because somebody has to pay that bill and your a/c takes up a lot of your bills on here you can see that this just shows up my battery power and stuff on this screen but if I wanted to change the a/c I can go in here and I can turn it on cool and make that thing go up and down so the same thing with furnace or I can

00:11:45 put mine on auto control it depends on your RV how it works since everybody’s RV is different but this is digital and this one is a 2018 Thor outlaw 37RBToy Hauler like I mentioned if you haven’t seen a tour of it you can check it out below this video it’s pretty cool my smart car goes in the back the only other thing on here that you really care about is the fans so I can raise and lower the fans in the RV or turn them on and raise and lower them from here so these are like the bathroom fan that I was talking about and then I have a

00:12:17 couple fans so you see I had a fan in the garage a fan in the bathroom I have a fan here or event here in my kitchen now if you notice the fan or the and here in the kitchen is really dark and what it is is there’s like a vent cover on the outside which you can see so you see the bit on the outside it’s actually like a cover that’s put over this and it allows you to use the vent when it’s windy or raining because there’s nothing blowing on the vent it’s windy or raining sometimes these have temperature sensors or wind sensors rain sensors where they’ll close on their own

00:12:59 but even if the RV’s in storage or you just want to get airflow having this vent helps this is like I said the covers on the vent from the outside and then I cover the vent from the inside with this two wrong way reflective goes on the outside but I’ll keep this covered just to keep the sunlight out but those vents actually help not let a lot of sunlight in if you see it’s pretty dark and I’ve shown you the vent trick but just to remind you you’ll want to open a window so these are my other windows if you noticed I have this

00:13:34 reflected in the wind note and these are just cut and I just prop it up in the window but I’ll open a window and with the vent open and turning it on this creates like a circular motion I was trying to see if this would swing but this is just creating wind so there’s like wind coming in to the RV and circulating out so you only want to do that obviously if your AC is off and that’s loud so we turn that off but I’ll get air flow in here but I’ll close my windows obviously to retain the AC put this reflectix in every window that I

00:14:17 have so this goes in and it’s just propped up there we use champagne bottles and coffee makers to prop that off and like I said I’ll put this up in my Vince and these are just pre-cut that you can buy I think camco makes these but that’s what I’m saying you can buy pre-cut reflectix for the windows that I think they make but you’re just gonna pay a lot more so you might as well just buy the big roll and put the roll or cut the roll to fit the size so this one I think somebody already left this and that our VSL reason to have it or maybe

00:14:58 I had it from before this window is gonna be the biggest window and another thing to think about is like where you park your RV so this one lets in a lot of sunlight and if you notice I mean this is a big window so it’s really big but this is letting in a lot of sunlight depending on where the Sun is rising and setting and the Sun actually sets rises over here in the sets on this side of my RV but you want a part where there’s not as much sunlight coming into the RV from the window so if you have a lot of windows like this whole half of my RV

00:15:36 since I have the front of the RV and all these windows around it gets hotter in here but I put the reflectix I have this sunshade and I have this shape and I literally keep all of that the way it is again I have a door up here if you can say I didn’t take the reflectix and shove it in here and this is actually fall and I just put it back up but you can hang this I think I have like a Velcro strip or a command strip that holds that down and this is the front half of the RV so this part of the RV lets in a lot of

00:16:18 sunlight so some of the things that I’ve done is these are some rods that are installed in the way I installed these cartons was just this is a shower Pole right here that expands and I have two of them and then I got these hooks you can see these are just these little s hooks and I got them at Lowe’s so I just hang these and Milo’s gonna help us hang the pole so we have a little helper but these hooks hold these curtains and these are actually from my van so if you remember my van these curtains came out of my van and I’ll just slide them

00:17:00 across so this helps keep the heat from the front of the RV up front and not back here and if you are up front you will notice there is a lot of heat that comes out of here so if you can see this and we use the curtain to hide this stuff but this is my shades that come with the RV but look how big this window is this is how much reflectix I had to use this is just one window I’m gonna show you the other one does and I actually have this secured if you can tell this little command hook so this is

00:17:51 the window and I just have it kind of like shoved up in here underneath but this is this is my windows from the outside so if you can tell I just have it kind of cut and it fits in the window and then I did the same thing on the other side and then of course I always have the shades down and then if you look in the front I have this sunshade that really doesn’t matter right now but this one is the big bad boy so I’m not gonna put it all the way up but you can kind of see what it is so it’s the same thing I actually put a

00:18:36 huge thing of reflectix in here and then I put my sunshade down this helps keep a lot of the heat out of the RV and then the only other thing is like if we’re traveling we have the front AC that actually comes from like the driving part of the car I have my AC and then these are the other ways that I keep the heat out in the cold air in so yeah that’s my RV setup so now you know how I’m keeping my RV cool this summer and on a little bit of a budget all the products that I mentioned you can find in the description below this video
