RV Life Behind the Scenes: Why I Still Film, Edit & Post My Content Solo
In this video, I discuss a question I get asked a lot—why I don’t hire help for creating and editing my RV YouTube Channel videos and RV blog posts.
THIS IS A TRUE STORY — My RV Life Behind the Scenes: Why I Still Film, Edit & Post My Content Solo…
I explain how time-consuming it is to train someone to meet my content standards, and how the financial return on that kind of investment isn’t always direct or predictable. Besides hiring help such as a video editor or someone experienced with writing, like a blogger!
I also talk about my current life situation, including RV living, property hunting, and the ongoing challenge of balancing content creation with my personal life and business. Because running an RV Business along with my other ventures as a digital Nomad aka Nomadic Entrepreneur, can get overwhelming and exhausting.
One reason I love running a location independent business (i.e. Mobile Business, Online Business, etc…) from my RV is that I can take my home and office (work from home while you roam), plus all the paws with me — sometimes people call me an RV Entrepreneur, which is a little more fitting!
Another thing to consider when hiring is that I need someone who understands RVing and what Full Time RV Life means, whether it be stationary RV living in an RV Park or traveling doing the van life, motorhome, fifth wheel camping thing!
I’d love to hear your thoughts, so please leave a comment, like this video, subscribe to the channel, and check out more content on my RV website @RVersity = RV University for EVERYTHING you need to know about How To RV! Think RV Education 101…
Here is the video transcript:
Why don’t you hire some help?
I know. What you’re already thinking. Is Brandi, why don’t you hire some help? Why don’t you hire somebody to help you?
Let me tell you my thoughts on this. I’ve done this before, okay?
So, I already know that somebody is going to be asking me like, Why don’t you have somebody edit your YouTube videos or edit your blog posts? Have you considered that?
And so, yes, I’ve considered that. Okay, but it does take time.
Time + Energy = Creativity
It takes time to have someone edit your videos. It takes time, almost the same amount of time, to put it all together to tell somebody, Hey, edit this video and make this thing as it does for me to have just made it. By the time I’ve created that whole thing and said, Hey, go make this video. Hey, here it all is. They have taken away precious time from me. and what I could be doing.
And so yeah, I guess sometimes I get naive and think, oh, I could just do it better or they’re not going to do it the way that I want it.
Cost
And also, it’s not a dollar-for-dollar exchange. I think people don’t know that it’s not a dollar for dollar exchange of me creating a video or paying someone to create a video.
It’s not like, oh, I’ll pay you a hundred bucks to make a video and then I’ll make a hundred dollars from it. It doesn’t work that way.
It’s not that it doesn’t. But I’m just saying, you know, not every video that I publish, everybody cares about, kind of like this video. Some people are like, oh, I really want to hear about those RV life updates.
And then other people are probably like, blah, that’s boring. I only want to hear if she says how to RV or do something — that I don’t really care about behind the scenes.
Content
I just felt like I really needed to make this video and tell you what’s going on. Because if I just keep posting random content, you’re going to be like, What’s going on?
What do you really have going on? So, this is the most updated video that I have out there that I haven’t posted.
I’m not in my RV right now, even though it’s literally outside. (And then, I just got a text from NVington telling me, Hey, we’re going back to the RV trailer tonight) — My RV’s life is in two different places.
My life is in different places.
Praying For Property = HOME
We’re looking for property, maybe an RV park, something like that.
We really wanted this bed and breakfast and it just hasn’t come to pass. And so, Jesus please give us some property. Give us an RV park. Give us something that’s our own. I love you, and I do feel blessed.
But, yeah, that’s really what’s going on.
BTW = I can’t Give Someone A CRAPPY Sandwich
The other thing is I just feel like I can’t give someone A crappy sandwich, you know and expect them to make some out of it
So when people say oh hire somebody and get some help I just don’t feel they capture it the same way that I would capture the content and create it.
And not to say that I can’t train somebody or that it can’t work out that way, but again, my RV life is not the only content that I have out there.
Capturing Content vs The Cost
And yes, YouTube does pay me some money for making these videos, but it does take time to capture, edit, and create these videos, and then to upload them and post them consistently.
When we’re not always in the RV, sometimes I just want to take a break from that and not just be posted by my RV.
Backlog Of Content
I do just feel I have a backlog of content and I’m so tired as AF as I told you.
90 percent of my content has never seen the light of day.
There’s so many videos and so many things that some I feel: Oh, I’ve never been allowed to post. And then some I think, Oh, I’m waiting for that day. I can’t wait to post it. And then some I’m like, Oh, I just need to post it.
Kind of like where I feel things are at!
