  >  RV Life   >  Why I Started RV Living: What I Gave Up & How It Changed My Life

Thinking about full-time RV living or starting your own RV YouTube channel? Two years ago, I took the leap into RV life — and what I thought would be a simple adventure turned into a journey of self-discovery, big challenges, and life-changing decisions.

From selling my condo and car to recovering from a serious RV accident, I’ve experienced firsthand what it really takes to build a new life on the road. And now, I’m finally ready to share it all.

In this post, I’ll open up about why I started RV living, what I left behind, and how this RV lifestyle has transformed ME — plus what you can expect to see on my new RV channel. Whether you’re dreaming about hitting the road, curious about the realities of RV life, or just want a behind-the-scenes look at my journey, you’re in the right place.

Starting My New RV Channel: My Journey So Far…

This may not be the greatest setup, but I’m trying to start this new RV YouTube channel. And it’s not really new — like, I had one before. I just didn’t really progress on it.

Honestly, it’s because about two years ago I started this whole RV journey and I started making videos, and it just kind of turned into something way different because of all the stuff that I went through getting this RV.

And then I was in a really bad accident… and there’s just so much to my story that I really wanted to share with you.

I’ve kind of gathered videos and clips along the way over this period, as well as now. I finally have an RV that we’re in right now (and I’ll take you on a tour later!).

It really has been such a big journey, and I’ve been asked so many questions along the way. I kept saying, “Oh, well I’ll answer your questions for you. I’m going to start a channel…” — and it just never happened.

But now it’s here.

I hope that you will follow me on my journey — everything that has gone on and had to happen over the past couple of years, as well as what’s coming next.

Who Am I?

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Blogging Brandi.

I actually have another channel on YouTube already that is going strong if you want to learn about business and branding. That is my other channel.

It’s how I run my business.

But on this blog and my RV channel, this is all about:

  • How I travel in my RV
  • How I live and work in my RV
  • What life is really like on the road BTS

Honestly, I love the RV. It brings me close to nature.

There’s a whole lot of reasons behind why I started RVing, and I really wanted to bring you on this journey and talk to you about everything that I’ve gone through — and things that you may actually have to go through.

Because while I built Blogging Brandi (my personal blog and YouTube channel), all of this was going on right here… and nobody knew about it.

I’ve mentioned it a few times, but this is a completely different lifestyle, and I chose it because I wanted to do something different with my life.

A Little About My Background

When I grew up, I was going into cosmetology.

I remember driving down the street passing RVs and trailer parks, and my dad would say:

“Wow, I bet a cosmetologist lives there, Brandi.”

And it just really killed two dreams:

  1. I didn’t know that I wanted to live in a trailer when I grew up. (So that one was dead for a while.)
  2. I wanted to be a cosmetologist really badly — and my dad just kind of made me feel crappy about that decision.

Just for the record — I’m not completely bonkers. I did go to cosmetology school.

And I went to college. I actually have a four-year degree in finance. Completely different, I know.

But I went into finance (which, honestly, my dad kind of pushed me into).

Everybody kept telling me, “Go back to school. Get your degree.”

And I did. I got that big job. I had the really fancy car. I had the title and the big condo and all the flashy things.

And… I wasn’t satisfied in my life.

It made me branch out.

Why I Started RVing

Like I said, over these last couple of years there’s been so many things that have gone on.

There’s a reason why I started RVing and what kind of brought me into it.

Long story short:

  • I went into finance.
  • I got out of that because something was pulling at me.
  • After going through some things in my life, I started being an entrepreneur.
  • I learned how to run a business on the road.

I figured out I didn’t have to be stuck in an office all the time.

I figured out how to take that dream I had of traveling — of not being stationary — and make it happen.

Plus, I had a lot of really good ideas… but nobody wanted to hear what I had to say.

So I gave all of that up to get somewhere else.

Now? I sold my condo. I sold my car.

I actually just got another little car — a Smart car. (You might see some Smart car blogs/vlogs on here because I love that car!)

How RV Life Changed Me

Another thing that happened during all of this is that I became a little different.

I wasn’t so superficial.

I wasn’t focused on what everybody else was focused on — which was my looks.

I had always been given jobs because of my looks. I always dressed up, looked the part, dyed my hair, did my nails.

Everybody judged me on that.

And honestly, those things put me in debt — when I could have been doing so much more.

  • I could have been traveling.
  • I could’ve had an RV and had that job.
  • I could have had so much more.

So I wish my eyes had opened sooner.

And I hope that I can open your eyes by showing you this RV lifestyle — and how much I love it.

Living More Sustainably

One of the biggest things RVing did for me:

It made me start learning how I was impacting the environment.

I learned a lot from boondocking (living off-grid).

When you’re boondocking, you’re carrying everything on board with you.

And I realized:

What I’m trying to get in here takes effort — it’s not just given to you.

In a house, you pay your electricity bill, you pay your water bill, and you have water and electricity. You don’t really think about it.

But in RV life?

You have to think about those things — power, water, cable, internet.

I’ve learned a lot of really cool tips and tricks, and I really love sharing them with you.

Because when you come into this RV lifestyle, it’s like a whole new world.

What I’ll Be Sharing on This Channel

I also had to consider what I was taking on the RV versus what I was leaving behind.

The essentials:

Basically, all the things I do in here — I try to use natural products. Or at least I’m working toward making everything I use more natural.

So now I’m a little bit weird. 😅

All of the products I use are part of that lifestyle change, and that’s another thing I want to share here:

  • Products I use (and where to get them)
  • Product reviews (some RV-specific, some not)
  • Tips for making a more natural, healthy lifestyle transition — whether you’re in an RV or a house

Wrapping It Up

I’m excited to get this channel started — to finally share some of the stuff I’ve collected and created along the way.

I’ve always been nervous to start this… but here we go.

So that’s really my story.

I really want your support.

If we haven’t officially met, Hi I’m Blogging Brandi, an EX-Corporate Kool-Aid Drinker, born to be a Blogger, Creator, Digital Nomad, and Entrepreneur who loves RVing while running my own business on the road! Over 9 years ago, I traded my sticks & bricks lifestyle for a life on wheels. Quit my job, sold my house, and everything else, and then bought an RV! First, was a Travel Trailer, then Van Life, and eventually Motorhome Living! I created RVersity (RV + University) out of my love-hate relationship with RV Life!
